Ingredients

  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • Seasonings (salt, cayenne, paprika, oregano, thyme, cumin)
  • Cooking spray
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp horseradish sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • Seasonings for sauce

Instructions

  1. 1 Prepare Onion: Remove the top of onion and carefully cut out the core. Create 16 evenly spaced cuts from top to bottom, being careful not to cut through the base.
  2. 2 Create Batter: In one bowl, whisk together milk and egg until well combined. In a separate bowl, mix flour with seasonings until evenly distributed.
  3. 3 Bread Onion: Gently separate onion petals. Dip entire onion in wet mixture, then thoroughly coat with seasoned flour. Repeat process once more for extra crispiness.
  4. 4 Cook: Generously spray coated onion with cooking spray. Air fry at 375°F / 190°C for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
  5. 5 Prepare Sauce: Combine mayonnaise, horseradish sauce, ketchup and seasonings in a bowl. Mix well and serve alongside the crispy onion.
