Oven to air fryer converter
Drop the temperature by 25°F and cut the time by about 20 percent. That is the whole rule. This does the arithmetic and rounds to something your dial can actually do.
What the rule looks like on real recipes
| Recipe | Air fryer | Oven equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Air Fryer Teriyaki Salmon | 400°F for 10 min | 425°F for 13 min |
| Crispy Buffalo Wings | 400°F for 28 min | 425°F for 35 min |
| Air Fryer Baked Potato | 400°F for 40 min | 425°F for 50 min |
| Air Fryer Focaccia | 340°F for 30 min | 365°F for 38 min |
Safe internal temperatures
Whichever appliance you use, the food is done when the inside hits these numbers, not when the timer goes off.
Questions people ask
Why do air fryers cook faster than ovens?
An air fryer moves hot air through a small chamber with a strong fan. That concentrated convection transfers heat much faster than a conventional oven, so most dishes finish in about 20 to 25 percent less time.
Do I need to preheat the oven for a converted recipe?
Yes. Ovens take 10 to 15 minutes to reach temperature, so put the food in only once it is fully preheated or your timing will be off.
Will the texture be the same?
Close, not identical. Air fryers crisp better because of the airflow. In an oven, cook on a wire rack over a sheet pan and give the food a light spray of oil to get closer.
Does this work for frozen food?
Yes. The same rule applies, but frozen items may need an extra 2 to 3 minutes in the oven because air fryers are unusually efficient at heating from frozen.
